dj mix/mashup: deuces in paris (Jay-Z, Kanye West, Chris Brown)

Made with Logic Pro at 70 bpm The process of putting this together was a good example of the old saying 'two's company, three's a crowd.' Tried to integrate a third song and it just wasn't working for me, so I spent more time cutting/reshuffling N****s in Paris. And in the process, I learned that Jay-Z is saying 'ball so hard muthaf****s wanna fine me,' not 'ball so hard muthaf****s wanna find me' like I always thought - not to mention my misinterpretation of the slowed-down version as 'this is how muthaf****s wanna find me.' Goes to show I'm a beat guy first, lyrics guy never. Here's the playlist we drew from

Under The Influence - Chris Brown

tempo: 58-59 bpm the DJ's take: Two notable sections if you're using this for a mashup: first ~16 seconds for a drum-free instrumental, and 1:05-1:22 for an instrumental with percussion. Take either of them, turn into a loop for as long as needed, and that's a fun ingredient for something bigger. Could sound interesting with Never Be Like You - Flume, Kai , Pursuit of Happiness - Kid Cudi, MGMT, Ratatat , Señorita - Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes or Everything We Need - Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, Ant Clemons [58-59 bpm] , off the top of my head. Full playlist is here , so try it out and see what other combinations you come up with. download or stream Under the Influence: amazon

dj mix/mashup: Five More Hours and I'm Good (ft. David Guetta, Bebe Rexha, Deorro and Chris Brown)

Made with Logic Pro at 127 bpm A little strange to see I'm Good get popular - the original Eiffel 65 song came out when I was in college, and it was something you threw into the Winamp playlist and blasted at a dorm room party on a Thursday night as you did a silly dance after your sixth whiskey sour. The nice thing is you can drop that unmistakable riff over a good selection of key and bpm-compatible dance tracks . As you can see, there's a good sliver starting around 0:43-44 seconds in; it's the vocal-free riff plus full-on percussion. That'll give you a solid ~15 seconds to play with or loop a few times, like I did. If you just want the piano without the percussion, isolate the section at the very beginning.

Back To Sleep - Chris Brown

tempo: 93 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #2 in our chapter 53 mix (1:52): One of the rare examples where I'm going with the clean version over the explicit one. If you're generating a Marvin Gaye vibe, a smooth, gentler approach is the way to go, if you ask me. Generous instrumental-only intro enables you to ease in. And on the back end, fits nicely with the intro to Biggie's One More Chance Remix . Decent choice for a hiphop / r&b night in a laidback, classier environment. Some other key-compatible music: Watermelon Sugar - Harry Styles Starboy - The Weeknd, Daft Punk I Wonder - Kanye West Closer - Nine Inch Nails Delicate - Taylor Swift Stir Fry - Migos Gorgeous - Taylor Swift Unpretty - TLC Suena El Dembow - Joey Montana, Sebastián Yatra Pendulum - Katy Perry One More Chance (Remix) - Notorious BIG SUBEME LA RADIO - Enrique Iglesias All We Know - The Chainsmokers No Games - Serani Out of the Woods - Taylor Swift This Is How We Do - K

Whatchamacallit - Ella Mai ft. Chris Brown

tempo: 99 bpm The DJ's Take: Final song in chapter 52 (18:36): Pretty good candy; I was always happy to get one in my Halloween trick-or-treat bag back in the late 80s. Worth a try [via amazon] . As for the song, decent filler for a pop / light hiphop & r&b night. Internet props if you can figure out where I cut and shortened it in the mix. Some other key-compatible tracks: Be Faithful - Fatman Scoop ft. Faith Evans Me & The Rhythm - Selena Gomez Blem - Drake Blueberry Faygo - Lil Mosey Dreamlover - Mariah Carey It's Great to Be Here - Jackson 5 Happier - Marshmello, Bastille Me & The Rhythm - Selena Gomez Crazy In Love - Beyoncé ft. Fun to shout out, and it works perfectly fine as a way to say goodbye to your friends or as an exclamation point at the end of a breakup. Also - during the transition out of Drunk In Love, listen to how those repeating notes bounce right in time with Beyoncé's drawn-out 'lo-o-o-ve' at around 3:20. Fits like a hand in glove. Five More Hours - Deorro x Chris Brown

tempo: 128 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm The DJ's Take: Track #4 in mix #37 (5:48): So I'm no expert, but if you go about 2:40 into that video, we see why his car broke down - he must've pumped the wrong gas into it. Blue, purple or pink smoke coming out is the telltale sign. If he'd put the proper fuel in, we'd be seeing orange or brilliant hues of neon green. Mystery solved. On a side note, that louder transition / buildup from Red Lights would be my Electric Daisy Carnival moment. I can see it now - light show flashing in back of me as I pump my fist in the air, pretending I'm turning knobs on the controller, and then pyrotechnics going off as the first note hits. Then I jump into the crowd of about 30 and do some surfing: Sorry Post pic.twitter.com/7Qq8BWaYLh — Will Hanken (@w_Hank2434) September 25, 2017 A boy can dream... Freaky Friday - Lil Dicky ft. Chris Brown

tempo: 100 bpm bpm range:   95  to  100 bpm ,  100  to  105 bpm the dj's take: First thing's first - doesn't this basically jack the beat from Ty Dolla $ign's Saved ? Has to be the same producer. Come on; try a little harder. On the positive side, that's an easy mix / mashup right there. So is Freaky Friday worth a spin on a pop night? I'd give it a go, although the video adds some context if you're a VJ. Some key-compatible tracks from 95 to 99 bpm: Closer - The Chainsmokers Don't - Ed Sheeran Mayores - Becky G ft.
