Music Review: Te Amo - Rihanna

Speed: 86 bpm

The DJ’s Take: I remember that this leaked out on the web a few months back, and it was a sped up, reggaeton version, which I liked a little better. Still, this is like an edgier Miss Independent, and probably the most danceable track off Rihanna’s new album Rated R. Don’t be surprised to see this become a single, especially if it’s clear that people aren’t feeling the darker vibe from the rest of the record.

DJ Swag: Skull Candy Riot Headphones (Rasta)

Maybe you dj, maybe you don’t. But we all listen to our iPod or mp3 player wherever we go. And while we’re doing it, why not look good? These Rasta-themed earbuds are especially appropriate for those who listen to reggae.

Yes, they do cost $19.95, which seems a bit steep. But you can’t underestimate the power of swag when you’re trying to catch someone’s eye on the subway or the bus. I have these dull gray iPod earbuds I break out when I’m on the go, and as former New York Knick great Walt Frazier once proclaimed, no play for Mr. Gray. Learn from my mistake and add some color to your listening accessories, because you never know who’s watching.

Music Review: Do You Remember - Jay Sean ft. Sean Paul and Lil Jon

Speed: 127 bpm

The DJ’s Take: New single from the man who brought you Down, and it’s getting good radio play. For some reason, this reminds me of My First, My Last, My Everything - it’s probably the percussion and sugary bounciness. And whaddaya know - he gets Lil Jon to yell and Sean Paul to do a verse, which is standard operating procedure for almost any aspiring pop single. Not great, but certainly not a dud. If you’re a DJ, give it a spin in that 125-130 bpm mix to see how the crowd likes it.
