The BMC Top 3 for the week of 8/8/10

What’s happening,

It’s been a minute since I did my last list of top songs on the charts, and a lot has changed since then. Just to clarify, ranking is based on my perception of crowd reaction when I play these at a college bar (i.e. not a club). Also, for more of my input on each song, and a link to the MP3 download, click on the neon song title. With that in mind, here we go:

1. Dynamite - Taio Cruz

Who knew that Jimmy Walker’s favorite word in the English dictionary would become a big pop EDM hit? In the buildup to the chorus, you hear Taio Cruz saying, “I throw my hands up in the air sometimes, sayin Aaay-yo,” and this is pretty much what people do when I look out the window of my DJ booth. If you spin top 40, this is a must download right now.

2. California Gurls - Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg

If you DJ, or you listen to the radio at all, you know how big this song is. Just as the Notebook was a legendary chick flick, this is a legendary chick track, so embrace it. Reaction to this doesn’t seem to be as strong as it is for Dynamite, but you can feel confident that the floor will stay active if you throw this on.

3. DJ Got Us Fallin in Love - Usher ft. Pitbull

As big as OMG was a couple months ago, this single has already gotten a better reaction than the former #1 ever did. It’s crazy to think that Usher has conquered three different eras of pop music with his hits - the mid 90s, the mid 00s, and now the early 10s. This man has the Midas Touch, and I think DJ Got Us Fallin in Love will be #1 on the real charts in the near future.

So that’s it for my Top 3. What’s your Top 3? Leave a comment below and share your opinion.
