Motivation - Kelly Rowland ft. Lil Wayne

Speed: 71 bpm

The DJ's Take: Kelly Rowland's quietly crafted a solid career after Destiny's Child, and this single is another positive building block. At first, it was sort of different not hearing her on a faster dance track, but she doesn't sound out of place here. I like this in a chill, lounge type environment, or at the end of the night when things are winding down.

I'm On One - DJ Khaled ft. Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne

Speed: 75 bpm

The DJ's Take: I feel like this should've come out in winter. Perfect hibernating music. Maybe they'll have I'm On One on repeat at one of those ice bars over in Europe. I could picture myself sipping whiskey and contemplating the existentialism of my existence.

The Edge of Glory - Lady Gaga

Speed: 128 bpm

The DJ's Take: This song is corny as hell, and no amount of scientific evidence can convince me otherwise. You know how Lady Gaga preaches stuff like self-confidence and loving yourself? I think maybe she's gotten to the point where she believes she's teflon. And the saxophone part makes it even worse - did she hire that Careless Whisper guy to play it?

Anyway, I would not spin this, unless it hits #1 and stays there for 3 straight months or you're dj'ing a gay/lesbian middle school throwdown. Then by all means, knock yourself out.

Don't Wanna Go Home - Jason Derulo

Speed: 122 bpm

The DJ's Take: Someone please explain to me how this song has cracked the Billboard Top 20. I seriously cringed after listening to this dude channel his inner-Belafonte for the first 30 seconds; makes you wonder if the songwriter was listening to 6 foot 7 foot and said "Hey - I think I'll grab a different, more recognizable part of that Day-O song." Then the producer goes and jacks the beat from one of my favorite dance hits from the 90s. A perfect example of how lazy the music industry and its listeners can get.

Man Down - Rihanna

Speed: 78 bpm

The DJ's Take: Don't really know what to make of this track. On one hand, you get the feeling Rihanna can do no wrong on the charts, and an island vibe is good for summertime. On the other hand, while I'm no expert, the reggae beat sounds contrived to me. Also, when she goes rum-puh-puh-pum a couple times, it makes me think of Dave Chappelle's imitation of Dylan from Making the Band and I have a hard time keeping a straight face.

DJs - turn on key adjust and mix with: 70-75 bpm: Obsesion - Frankie J ft. Baby Bash, Give Me A Try - Sizzla, Bottoms Up - Trey Songz, BedRock - Young Money, Got Your Back - T.I. ft. Keri Hilson, All The Above - Maino, Boyfriend #2 - Pleasure P, Crank That - Soulja Boy, Say My Name

75-80 bpm: This Is Why I'm Hot - MIMS, Turnin Me On - Keri Hilson, You Make Me Wanna - Usher, Rockin That Thang - The Dream, Power - Kanye West
