The BMC Top 5 for August 2010

Ever since I started this blog, I’ve posted lists of top pop songs based on my own feelings and observations. But I always wrote them knowing that the perspective of one man is limited. Fortunately, the traffic on this site has picked up over the past few months, so from now on, I’ll be posting the Beat Match City Top 5 every week and every month based on what readers are reading the most.

Long story short, be sure to visit this site every 8th, 15th and 22nd of each month for the top 5 from the previous week. And if you want a longer term view of what’s hot on the charts, visit this site the first day of every month for the top 5 from the previous month.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the BMC Top 5 for August 2010. Click on the track name for analysis and MP3s:

1. Love the Way You Lie - Eminem ft. Rihanna

2. Airplanes - B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams

3. Magic - B.o.B ft. Rivers Cuomo

Lucky You - Eminem ft. Joyner Lucas

tempo: 76-77 bpm bpm range: 75 bpm  to  80 bpm the dj's take: I was wondering why the phrase 'Lucky You' sounded familiar... then remembered my Lucky Brand jeans say this behind the zipper: So let's say you're on a date. Things are going well, relations commence, and your companion sees that message. Cute? Or a mood killer? Either way, that's a lot of bravado to live up to. Brings to mind Brick Tamland in Anchorman: As for the track, try mixing with: Bam - Jay-Z ft. Damian Marley PIE - Future ft. Chris Brown Stitches - Shawn Mendes download or stream Lucky You: amazon itunes

ROCKSTAR - DaBaby ft. Roddy Ricch

tempo: 90 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #1 in our chapter 51 mix (made in Logic Pro X ): Big bass, so I had to be strategic about where to transition out and into Rihanna's Work . A little more of an in-depth look, plus some thoughts on its shelf life in a dj's rotation: Bottom line, when nightlife at college bars picks up again, this will likely be in heavy rotation. Some other key-compatible tracks: Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz Public Service Announcement - Jay-Z Con Calma - Daddy Yankee, Snow River - Eminem, Ed Sheeran Bella y Sensual - Romeo Santos, Daddy Yankee, Nicky Jam In My Bed (So So Def Remix) - Dru Hill Gold Digger - Kanye West ft.
