Gear Review: Numark Mixtrack Pro 3

I've always had a soft spot for all-in-one dj controllers - compact design, easier to set up, and a good all-around value. So what would I buy if I were still spinning? The Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 would be high up on the wish list. Simple to use, and new enough to offer the features a modern dj needs (see the video above), but not so new that it costs an arm and a leg.

A sampling of the feedback from around the web:

'This is the best Mixtrack Pro yet. It's the most 'grown up' looking design to date for this model, being nicely spaced out, and feels very natural in use, especially with those lovely long pitch controls... For the price, it's a steal.' - Digital DJ Tips (4 stars out of 5)

'This is a real plug and play experience. Throw your tracks into Intro and you're off. Syncing works on a very simple level, and should allow you to match beats pretty accurately... DJing is after all about mixing music, and the Mixtrack Pro lets you do that perfectly.' - DJWorx.com

And finally, a quick routine by DJ AP:

Lucky You - Eminem ft. Joyner Lucas

tempo: 76-77 bpm bpm range: 75 bpm  to  80 bpm the dj's take: I was wondering why the phrase 'Lucky You' sounded familiar... then remembered my Lucky Brand jeans say this behind the zipper: So let's say you're on a date. Things are going well, relations commence, and your companion sees that message. Cute? Or a mood killer? Either way, that's a lot of bravado to live up to. Brings to mind Brick Tamland in Anchorman: As for the track, try mixing with: Bam - Jay-Z ft. Damian Marley PIE - Future ft. Chris Brown Stitches - Shawn Mendes download or stream Lucky You: amazon itunes

ROCKSTAR - DaBaby ft. Roddy Ricch

tempo: 90 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #1 in our chapter 51 mix (made in Logic Pro X ): Big bass, so I had to be strategic about where to transition out and into Rihanna's Work . A little more of an in-depth look, plus some thoughts on its shelf life in a dj's rotation: Bottom line, when nightlife at college bars picks up again, this will likely be in heavy rotation.
