Music Review: Break Your Heart - Taio Cruz ft. Ludacris

Speed: 122 bpm

Recommended bpm range: 120 to 125 bpm

The DJ’s Take: I have to give props to Facebook for turning me on to this track. Couple of dj’s posted this video, it popped up on my little News Feed thing, so I listened, and it’s nice. Definitely a good dancefloor single, and the production is the musical equivalent of Pixy Stix with its sugary sweetness. It’s suddenly jumped to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and that’s even more reason to get it.

So dj’s (and aspiring music mixers), let’s talk strategy. Like an NBA guard prospect who’s got the shooting ability to play the 2, but enough handle and playmaking ability to play the 1, this track is a tweener. You can bump it up a few bpms and mix it with Akon’s Beautiful, or dial it down a few bpms and mix it with Jason Derulo’s In My Head. Again, you’ll probably need key adjust on your decks (I haven’t tried mixing these; just suggesting based on what I hear) to make it sound perfect. Anyway, like Black Sheep rapped back in the 90s, the choice is yours.
