Let Me Love You - Ne-Yo

Speed: 125 bpm The DJ's Take: Picture this - you're watching Step Up 7: The Concrete Jungle (Ed. note - not that much of a stretch; apparently we're already at Step Up 4 ). The female lead character has overcome a rough upbringing, self-confidence issues brought on by an abusive relationship, condescending peers, and so much more to land a big audition at Juilliard's contemporary dance program (I assume they have one). For her final number, with her new love interest in the audience, she comes out to this song and gives the performance of her life. Amazing. Seriously though, I could see this rising a bit more in the charts - it has a youthful, inspirational feel to it. Turn on key adjust and mix with tracks like Part of Me , I Wanna Go , and California Gurls , and you may be on to something. Download the song: Amazon:

One More Night - Maroon 5

Speed: 93 bpm The DJ's Take: If there's anything less believable than that lead singer being a boxer, it's Maroon 5 doing reggae. This track reminds me of that UB40 cover of Here I Am . Already a hit obviously - I'd consider mixing with something like Roll Up if you're looking to lead in or transition out. On a side note, shoutout to Phil Collins' One More Night , which was probably the first result that popped up in Youtube for this song title before Maroon 5 came along. Download the song : Amazon:

Anyway, not much to report in terms of changing trends in pop music. Dance music is where it's still at, until further notice. To those in the US, hope you are enjoying a relaxing Labor Day. And to those outside the US, my condolences (unless you're celebrating another holiday of which I am unaware). Got your own ideas about what should be in the Top 5? Leave a comment.
