APESHIT - THE CARTERS

tempo: 80 bpm bpm range: 75 bpm  to  80 bpm ,  80 bpm  to  85 bpm the dj's take:  Song #4 in detour 44  (8:32): The beat sounds like Black Beatles on molly. A solid party track designed to make a crowd go apeshit. Do not blast this in the car though, unless you feel like getting a speeding ticket. Most importantly, easy to mix; nice minimal intro, and then gets right down to business. Slow down a couple bpm's and this could sound cool with I'm Upset - Drake . Some other key-compatible tracks from 80 to 85 bpm: Truth Hurts - Lizzo Nobody Speak - DJ Shadow ft. Run the Jewels Through the Wire - Kanye West I'm Upset - Drake Paranoid - Post Malone End Game - Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Future Get It Right - Diplo, MØ Dance (A$$) Remix - Big Sean ft. Nicki Minaj The Story of OJ - Jay-Z Thunder - Imagine Dragons Big Poppa - Notorious BIG Just A Friend - Biz Markie M.I.L.F. $ - Fergie Hold Up - Beyoncé Stressed Out - twenty one pilots Trumpe

Truth Hurts - Lizzo

tempo:  79 bpm the dj's take:  Song #5 in detour 44  (10:51): That little piano riff is the foundation of the track, so we chopped up the beginning strains and laid them 4 times over the final section of  THE CARTERS' APESHIT  for a softer intro. Then you just drop in the hook with the full-blown percussion for the win. Here's how it looked in  Logic Pro X : Definitely worth trying in your next pop / hiphop mix. Nobody Speak - DJ Shadow ft. Run the Jewels

tempo: 80 bpm the dj's take:  Song #2 in detour 44  (3:19): If I were a bully, this would be my official theme song. And for that reason, it makes more sense to pair this with something louder. Transitioning into the YoungBloodZ' Damn! is a pretty good example of that - here's the waveform view in  Logic Pro X : Some other key- and bpm-compatible music: Through the Wire - Kanye West APESHIT - THE CARTERS I'm Upset - Drake Paranoid - Post Malone End Game - Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Future Get It Right - Diplo, MØ Dance (A$$) Remix - Big Sean ft. Without You - David Guetta ft. Usher

tempo: 128 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm The DJ's Take:  The final song in Episode 40 (19:39): Good way to wind down a pop edm set - energetic drops and quiet interludes. The pulsing synth without the vocals is pretty mix-friendly; plenty of places to drop this in without clashing with the previous song. Some other key-compatible music: Without You - Avicii Only Girl In The World - Rihanna Yeah 3X - Chris Brown Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas Disturbia - Rihanna Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 Who's That Chick - David Guetta, Rihanna Wake Me Up - Avicii Don't Start Now - Dua Lipa Breathe - Jax Jones ft. Stars - Marshmello

tempo: 71 bpm The DJ’s Take:  Song #6 in  Episode 41  (8:32): Notice that I didn't play much of this track on its own. That overlap with Rudimental & Major Lazer's Let Me Live and then Wiz Khalifa's  iSay  is pretty good; acts like a sonic condiment that enhances the flavor of whatever you're listening to. Some other key-compatible music: Deuces - Chris Brown Drunk In Love - Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z Ni**as in Paris - JAY-Z & Kanye West Curve - Gucci Mane ft. The Weeknd Grammys - Drake, Future Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae) - Silento Light Years - Yellow Claw Malibu - Miley Cyrus download or stream Stars: amazon spotify playlist

I'd Die Without You - P.M. Dawn

tempo:  80 bpm the dj's take: The final track in  chapter 42  (17:53): My favorite slow jam ever. Maybe because it came out around the time I hit puberty. But mostly because it's just on point in almost every way; would be a good choice for a wedding. Tried a more extended beat match out of Janet Jackson's Come Back to Me , but the chords didn't quite fit together - bringing this in at the end was the right move. Some other key-compatible music: No Other Love - John Legend ft. Estelle Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day Hello - Adele Best I Ever Had - Drake Comin Out Strong - Future ft. The Weeknd Love & War - Yellow Claw Don't Mind - Kent Jones Happy - Pharrell Daydreamin' - Lupe Fiasco I Can Transform Ya - Chris Brown download or stream I'd Die Without You: amazon spotify playlist

Through The Wire - Kanye West

tempo: 83 bpm bpm range: 80 bpm  to  85 bpm the dj's take:  Leadoff song in detour 44 : Had to do a little surgery in  Logic Pro X  for the transition into the next single: That's kind of the blessing and the curse of technology (as someone who didn't use software until well after I quit dj'ing) - I had a certain way I wanted it to sound, but the music and the beat structure weren't quite cooperating. Worked out in the end, after some trial and error on my part. And just in case you were wondering if I'm a fan of this track, we used it to end  Episode 38 (17:34): Took the last little section of the song and stuck it in the beginning to avoid clashing with the Taylor Swift vocals: Crisis averted. Unlike the 2009 VMAs .
