The BMC Top 5 for September 2011

Finally - a new #1:

BMC Top 5 Singles for September 2011:

1. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO

2. Don't Wanna Go Home - Jason Derulo

3. ET - Katy Perry & Kanye West

4. TGIF - Katy Perry

5. Look At Me Now - Chris Brown

Top 5 BPMs for September 2011:

1. 125 bpm

2. 130 bpm

3. 100 bpm

4. 120 bpm

5. 140 bpm

Not much changed from last month. One thing I can say - you guys seem to have a longer attention span with certain songs (like Look At Me Now and ET) than the people who determine the Billboard Charts. And that's a good thing. From my experience, it's ok to keep spinning tracks that have been popular for months - people will still be feeling those, even as they make their descent back down the charts.

Lucky You - Eminem ft. Joyner Lucas

tempo: 76-77 bpm bpm range: 75 bpm  to  80 bpm the dj's take: I was wondering why the phrase 'Lucky You' sounded familiar... then remembered my Lucky Brand jeans say this behind the zipper: So let's say you're on a date. Things are going well, relations commence, and your companion sees that message. Cute? Or a mood killer? Either way, that's a lot of bravado to live up to. Brings to mind Brick Tamland in Anchorman: As for the track, try mixing with: Bam - Jay-Z ft. Damian Marley PIE - Future ft. Chris Brown Stitches - Shawn Mendes download or stream Lucky You: amazon itunes

Stay - The Kid LAROI ft. Justin Bieber

tempo: 85 bpm bpm range:   85  to  90 bpm the dj's take: Song #9 in episode #65 of our mix show (22:29): Cool transition out of Scarface's Guess Who's Back ; loop that properly and you've got an interesting potential beat / mashup. And then we slide into T-Pain and Kehlani's I Like Dat to slow down the pace and take us into the home stretch. A must-spin for any pop dj - serves up a burst of bouncy energy for the youth who've been cooped up for awhile now. Some other key- and bpm-compatible music: Ahora - J Balvin Se Preparó - Ozuna Kill Jay-Z - Jay-Z Can I Get A - Jay-Z  Miss Independent - Ne-Yo Umbrella - Rihanna Treat You Better - Shawn Mendes Mind - Skrillex & Diplo Chandelier - Sia Burn - Ellie Goulding download or stream Stay: amazon DJ Cheat Sheet playlist
