Let Me Love You - Ne-Yo

Speed: 125 bpm

The DJ's Take: Picture this - you're watching Step Up 7: The Concrete Jungle (Ed. note - not that much of a stretch; apparently we're already at Step Up 4). The female lead character has overcome a rough upbringing, self-confidence issues brought on by an abusive relationship, condescending peers, and so much more to land a big audition at Juilliard's contemporary dance program (I assume they have one). For her final number, with her new love interest in the audience, she comes out to this song and gives the performance of her life. Amazing.

Seriously though, I could see this rising a bit more in the charts - it has a youthful, inspirational feel to it. Turn on key adjust and mix with tracks like Part of Me, I Wanna Go, and California Gurls, and you may be on to something.

Imma Be - Black Eyed Peas

tempo: 92 bpm, switches to 123 bpm halfway through bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm , 120 to 125 bpm the DJ’s take:  A unique track that changes tempo halfway through - saves a dj the effort of having to come up with an energy-accelerating transition (similar deal with Just Can't Get Enough ). Decent throwback that should work during one of your quieter Top 40 nights. On The Floor - Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm ,  130  to  135 bpm The DJ's Take:  J. Lo and Pitbull - a partnership that brought us one of the great in-concert images of the 2010s : Hey; he's only human. As for the track, a loud, thumping mega-hit when it came out. Still has value as a throwback on a dance-oriented, unpretentious Top 40 night. SICKO MODE - Travis Scott ft. Drake

tempo: 69 bpm, 77-78 bpm bpm range: 65 bpm to 70 bpm , 75 bpm  to  80 bpm the dj's take: The leadoff song in our Entry 23 mix: This one is like the Neopolitan ice cream of music - three flavors in one. Makes sense for the younger listeners and their shorter attention spans. And as a producer / songwriter, you can take three half-finished attempts at a single, then mash them together to make a hit.
