dj mix/mashup: Gorgeous Juicy Fruit (Kanye West, Mtume, DJ Snake, Rich The Kid, T.I.)

Made with Logic Pro at 95 bpm The mission for this one was take the drum-only intro to Juicy Fruit (sampled prominently in Notorious B.I.G.'s Juicy), find some drum-less loops from various songs in this playlist and this one , lay them over each other, and hope for the best. I think I did alright with the build-up, and the heavy guitar in Kanye's Gorgeous is a worthwhile pay-off.

dj mix/mashup: RISE for One More Night (ft. Fabolous & T-Pain's Baby Don't Go)

Made with Logic Pro at 98 bpm Credit for this one goes to the youtube algorithm - didn't know Rise was the sample used in Hypnotize until a week ago. But once I isolated the famous break and went through a couple playlists on djcheatsheet.com , it all came together fairly quickly. Especially after hearing Aphex Twin's Ageispolis and knowing right away they would sound good together. One of my favorite mashups in recent months. Especially the ending - feels good to finish strong.

dj mix/mashup: I'm Ready For Your Beautiful Flames (ft. Ed Sheeran, Sia and David Guetta)

Made with Logic Pro at 93 bpm Inspiration for this one came from re-visiting a transition in an old mix - sounded interesting, added a couple songs from this playlist , and it came together pretty quickly. Call me biased, but without DJ Cheat Sheet , I'd have a harder time getting anything going at all.

dj mix/mashup: waves go in your eyes (Kanye West, Kool & The Gang, The Weeknd)

Made with Logic Pro at 100 bpm Probably more of a mix/medley than a mashup? My original plan was to build something off mix show episode 48 with In Your Eyes , I Took A Pill in Ibiza and maybe Truffle Butter . But once I cycled through the playlist , it felt right to slowly ramp up the intensity and cap everything off with an obnoxious saxophone solo. Definitely more about the song choice than anything technical. In that regard, probably one of my better efforts from the past several months.

BESO - ROSALÍA, Rauw Alejandro

tempo: 95 bpm the DJ's take: Is this sort of like a Latin version of Closer ? Or maybe Love Me Like You Do . So those are some interesting possible mixes, if you can figure out where to transition in and out. Some other solid options in our 90 to 95 bpm and 95 to 100 bpm playlists. download or stream BESO: amazon

TQG - KAROL G, Shakira

tempo: 90 bpm the DJ's take: This could pair pretty well with Despacito , I Wanna Be Down , maybe Maneater (which has a lengthy instrumental intro). Dig around in the 85 to 90 and 90 to 95 bpm playlists and see if you can find some other interesting combinations. download or stream TQG: amazon

dj mix clip: creep ...baby one more time (tlc, britney spears)

Made with Logic Pro at 93 bpm I'm sure someone somewhere has mixed these two together. And with good reason - it's a no-brainer to stack two throwback classics that even the young people recognize. The drums for Creep can be a little tricky to beatmatch perfectly, so you can see I did a little surgery in certain spots. Sounds good in the end, and I highly recommend you try this in your next 90s mix. Listen to the full episode here: mix #78

dj mix clip: i'm ready for you x flames (bryson tiller, david guetta, sia)

Made with Logic Pro at 93 bpm Simple transition - the heavy drums in Flames cut out, so we slipped in the percussion-only intro from I'm Ready For You. Fit like a hand in glove; adds a fun little trap flavor to switch up the pace and sets up the next few minutes of the mix. Listen to the full episode here: mix #78

dj mix clip: i feel it coming x somethin tells me (the weeknd, bryson tiller)

Made with Logic Pro at 93 bpm Is this how the intro to I Feel It Coming sounds on psychedelics? Most likely. Whoever made the beat for Somethin Tells Me was either on something, or tapping into the memory of being on something. Untraditionally harmonic; the more I listen to the transition, the more I like it. Listen to the full episode here: mix #78

dj mix/mashup: Fancy Baby One More Time (The Weeknd, Britney Spears, TLC, Iggy Azalea)

Made with Logic Pro at 93 bpm Songs used: Out of Time - The Weeknd Creep - TLC ...Baby One More Time - Britney Spears Fancy - Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX I Feel It Coming - The Weeknd, Daft Punk First 40 seconds or so are a compressed version of an 8-10 minute mix that should get a crowd going at a wedding or a college bar on a pop night. Then we switch out Fancy for Out of Time as we settle in; sounds a little uneven, like someone slowly navigating a narrow sidewalk after some late-night libations. But that's just the natural vibe of Out of Time contrasting with the tighter percussion in the other two songs. I Feel It Coming was a natural choice to close out on a high note. Mix #78 offers a much more extended version of this, and if you feel like making your own thing, here's the full playlist I used.

dj mix/mashup: Juicy Roses for the Anti-Hero (Taylor Swift, Notorious B.I.G., The Chainsmokers)

Made with Logic Pro at 97 bpm Songs used: Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G. Roses - The Chainsmokers, ROZES I'll be honest; bought Anti-Hero on amazon by accident (was trying to post the link on djcheatsheet.com and totally butchered it), figured I should do something with my new download. Juicy's my favorite song among the three, so we made that the base, and alternated loops of Anti-Hero and Roses over it. Came out ok I think - the shuffling drums in Juicy can be tricky to beatmatch, so it took a little listening and experimentation to find the right sections for mixing. Here's the playlist of key and bpm-compatible dance tracks we used, in case you feel like making your own version - or something completely different.

dj mix/mashup: novacane in the wild

I always wondered how Novacane and No Church in the Wild would sound together. Finally got around to trying, and this video is the result - simply stacked the two intros together and made a loop. Any Frank Ocean fans out there should dig in and flesh it out a bit. Excellent potential for a full-on mashup. I'm So Paid - Akon ft. Lil Wayne & Young Jeezy

tempo: 92-93 bpm the DJ's take:  Song #3 in episode 73 of my dj mix show (4:44): I'd chosen the section for the transition from this one into Rihanna's Kiss It Better , but wasn't satisfied ending it with a simple fade out. So I broke out the scalpel and did some surgery in Logic Pro : I can count on one hand the number of times I've scratched/cut at a gig, and it was always very simple. My friend was more of a turntablist , and he'd use whiteout or tape (or something like that) to mark off spots on a record where he could cut in a good lyric or get a big sound for a scratch. Can be pretty cool in the proper dosage. Administer liberally if you're a legend: download or stream I'm So Paid: amazon dj cheat sheet playlist

So Sick - Ne-Yo

tempo: 95 bpm the DJ's take:  Song #1 in episode 73 of my dj mix show: I had this transition in my head for awhile. And thanks to technology, it wasn't difficult to manifest: Not bad. On a side note, I broke my arm in seventh grade in a biking accident, and got it re-set after a healthy dose of nitrous oxide - the opening purple background in that video gave me flashbacks to the procedure. Although it wasn't all purple; there were some yellow circles interspersed. Gave me something to focus on aside from the pain. download or stream So Sick: amazon dj cheat sheet playlist

Roar - Katy Perry

tempo: 90 bpm the dj's take: Final song in mix #67 (19:24): Fun fact - I went to a Manny Pacquiao fight in Vegas several years ago, and this was his entrance music. A girl power anthem for a world champion boxer; clearly not from America. And that was kind of fun. Couldn't really tell you why I put this where I put it. Heard Dua Lipa singing 'I could be the one' and thought the part with Katy Perry saying 'roar' a few times in a row could sound good in the next beat. Gave that a try, and I was all set - sometimes it's that simple.
