Beat Match City

Made with Logic Pro at 98 bpm Credit for this one goes to the youtube algorithm - didn't know Rise was the sample used in Hypnotize until a week ago. But once I isolated the famous break and went through a couple playlists on djcheatsheet.com , it all came together fairly quickly. Especially after hearing Aphex Twin's Ageispolis and knowing right away they would sound good together. One of my favorite mashups in recent months. Especially the ending - feels good to finish strong.

Made with Logic Pro at 98 bpm Songs used: Creepin' - Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, 21 Savage (instrumental) Anti-Hero (3 am edition) - Taylor Swift [97 bpm] Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G. Anti-Hero (ft. Bleachers) - Taylor Swift Good to see someone putting out an instrumental for a popular song. I used to buy vinyl around 2000-2005, and instrumentals were often a part of the deal. Saves time and gives you a lot more flexibility when you're making a mix or mashup; no unwanted vocals to pick through. Hope it becomes a trend. Unless I'm just totally ignorant of a site or service that offers them to dj's. On a side note, I didn't know there were multiple versions of Anti-Hero out there. Downloaded the version with Bleachers, sounded different enough from the 3 am version, so we made it the de facto 4th song. Came out alright in the end. Key and bpm-compatible playlist (djcheatsheet.com)

Made with Logic Pro at 97 bpm Songs used: Anti-Hero - Taylor Swift Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G. Roses - The Chainsmokers, ROZES I'll be honest; bought Anti-Hero on amazon by accident (was trying to post the link on djcheatsheet.com and totally butchered it), figured I should do something with my new download. Juicy's my favorite song among the three, so we made that the base, and alternated loops of Anti-Hero and Roses over it. Came out ok I think - the shuffling drums in Juicy can be tricky to beatmatch, so it took a little listening and experimentation to find the right sections for mixing. Here's the playlist of key and bpm-compatible dance tracks we used, in case you feel like making your own version - or something completely different.

tempo: 90 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #3 in our #59 mix (4:42): This track is a slow build into one of the great closing verses in hiphop history. We've got Christopher Wallace at the peak of his powers, flowing effortlessly over a euphoric sample of It's Great To Be Here , which led off episode 52 of our mix show. Talk about saving the best for last . On a side note, what's the over/under on number of years until >50% of Americans no longer know what a Benjamin is? I'm going with 20. tempo: 97 bpm bpm range: 95 to 100 bpm the DJ’s take: Song #11 in our Chapter 13 mix (26:04): Possibly Christopher Wallace's greatest single, and a definitive anthem for anyone who is living the dream. Doesn't matter what kind of music you spin - this one is timeless. On a side note, apparently you can buy the yellow basketball jersey he's wearing in the video ( via Amazon ): Maybe an interesting fashion statement, or a fun Halloween costume idea. tempo: 96 bpm bpm range: 95  to 100 bpm the DJ’s take:   Song #4 in our eight is not enough mix (7:29): Smooth; makes you feel cool just listening to it. Somewhat underrated, but if this guy is any indication, there's still an enthusiastic audience in the right setting: If you're in the 95 to 100 bpm range, try mixing with: Up Down (Do This All Day) - T-Pain ft B.o.B Particula - Major Lazer Mayores - Becky G ft. tempo:  90 bpm bpm range:   85  to  90 bpm ,  90  to  95 bpm the dj's take: Flava In Ya Ear should be a street term for a  wet willy  after the perpetrator eats garlic. No idea who Craig Mack was outside of this hard-hitting hiphop classic, but if this is the most notable thing you've left behind in your lifetime, you've done alright. RIP . Should sound ok key-wise with: Despacito - Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, Justin Bieber Perfect Pint - Mike WiLL Made-It ft. Kendrick Lamar, Gucci Mane, Rae Sremmurd Tunnel Vision - Kodak Black Chainsaw - Nick Jonas Be As You Are (JordanXL Remix) - Mike Posner The Man - Aloe Blacc Royals - Lorde Paper Planes - MIA download or stream Flava In Ya Ear Remix: amazon spotify playlist itunes

tempo: 104 bpm bpm range:   100  to  105 bpm the dj's take:  Now this is hiphop meant to be played at a party. Much lighter and sunnier than where the original Biggie verse came from, but that just makes it more accessible to the ladies and the youth. Regardless, the key compatibility makes these two songs ripe for a sweet & salty mix / mashup: Plenty of other tracks worth working in as well: Going Back To Cali - Notorious BIG Mo Money, Mo Problems - Notorious BIG Perfect Places - Lorde Are You Sure? - Kriss Kross Amsterdam ILY2 - Charli XCX Slide - Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean, Migos Touch - Little Mix STARVING - Hailee Steinfeld & Grey ft. tempo: 100 bpm bpm range:   95  to  100 bpm ,  100  to  105 bpm the DJ’s take: If I had one of those bouncing muscle cars , this track would be pounding out the stereo. Brings to mind the Zapp and Roger classic More Bounce To The Ounce . Excellent choice to keep things moving in a midtempo mix. tempo: 94 bpm bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm the DJ’s take:  Singalong hook, a hard, filthy beat, and the trademark vocals make this a guaranteed party starter. Smooth and refined, laced with a memorable piano riff & classic vocals from an icon. Speed: 104 bpm Recommended bpm range: 100 to 105 bpm The DJ’s Take:  A definitive party anthem of the 90s. Has an almost timeless quality - good chance a typical pop crowd (especially in NYC) will wave their hands side to side yelling, 'b-i-g p-o-p-p-a, no info fuh the D-E-A...' If you're staying key-compatible, try mixing with: STARVING - Hailee Steinfeld & Grey ft. Zedd Roses - The Chainsmokers We Don't Talk Anymore - Charlie Puth & Selena Gomez Hip Hop Hooray - Naughty By Nature Touch - Nick Jonas I'm Up - Omarion Love Me Harder - Ariana Grande ft. Speed: 107 bpm Recommended bpm range: 105 to 110 bpm The DJ’s Take: Can't overemphasize how underrated this song is. Not something you'll be spinning at a church or school dance, but in a grimy bar or club, it's pure gold. If you're staying key-compatible, try mixing with these tracks:
