Somebody Else - Mario ft. Nicki Minaj

Speed: 91 bpm

The DJ's Take: You know how sometimes you hear a cool song on Pandora, but you're not really paying attention to the title or artist, you forget about it for a couple months, and then it pops up again in a sidebar on YouTube? Pretty much sums this track up for me. That sample is on point, vocals are the tightest I've heard from Mario in awhile, and Nicki Minaj doesn't get in the way. I think this could've been a mainstream hit 10 years ago.

Now, it's more of a niche single you play for an urban crowd that can get down to hiphop-flavored R&B. Reminds me a lot of Faith Evans & Carl Thomas' Can't Believe both key and bpm wise, although the drums hit a little harder. I think this could also go nicely with something like Adorn - Miguel if you're looking to stay a little more modern. Other potentially mixable tracks include Numb - August Alsina, Swerve - Sage the Gemini, Show Me - Kid Ink, Diamonds - Rihanna, and She Ain't You - Chris Brown.

Lucky You - Eminem ft. Joyner Lucas

tempo: 76-77 bpm bpm range: 75 bpm  to  80 bpm the dj's take: I was wondering why the phrase 'Lucky You' sounded familiar... then remembered my Lucky Brand jeans say this behind the zipper: So let's say you're on a date. Things are going well, relations commence, and your companion sees that message. Cute? Or a mood killer? Either way, that's a lot of bravado to live up to. Brings to mind Brick Tamland in Anchorman: As for the track, try mixing with: Bam - Jay-Z ft. Damian Marley PIE - Future ft. Chris Brown Stitches - Shawn Mendes download or stream Lucky You: amazon itunes

Stay - The Kid LAROI ft. Justin Bieber

tempo: 85 bpm bpm range:   85  to  90 bpm the dj's take: Song #9 in episode #65 of our mix show (22:29): Cool transition out of Scarface's Guess Who's Back ; loop that properly and you've got an interesting potential beat / mashup. And then we slide into T-Pain and Kehlani's I Like Dat to slow down the pace and take us into the home stretch. A must-spin for any pop dj - serves up a burst of bouncy energy for the youth who've been cooped up for awhile now.
