dj mix/mashup: SORRY for Shaking Off My Bad Habits (ft. Mariah Carey, Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé)

Made with Logic Pro at 132 bpm Title of this mix doesn't make much sense, but we managed to fit in the names of all 3 songs somehow. I'd been wanting to lay that percussion-less intro to Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits over something, and it was nice to finally get around to it. A simple yet effective blend overall; I like how this came out. Songs come from this playlist and this one .

Boy's a liar Pt. 2 - PinkPantheress, Ice Spice

tempo: 133 bpm the DJ's take: I think this youtube comment summarizes the vibe (and demographic) pretty nicely: If you're staying key-compatible, maybe double-time over songs in this playlist , or find some music in this playlist that's in the 127-130 bpm range. Probably best dropped at a middle or high school dance. download or stream Boy's a liar Pt. 2: amazon

Break Free - Ariana Grande ft. Zedd

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm The DJ's Take:  Song #5 in episode  #37  (7:11): Explosive. It's like Zedd channeled Eric Prydz and turned the volume up to 11: Good choice for an event in a big venue. Or a party for a friend who just got out of a bad relationship. Yeah 3X - Chris Brown

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm The DJ’s Take:  Song #9 in  Episode 40  (11:35): Maybe one of the most efficient song titles in recent memory. And that transition from Meet Me Halfway is on point - try it out for yourself. Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas

tempo: 131 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm the DJ’s take:  Song #8 in Episode 40 (10:19): Took a few minutes to figure out where to drop this in, but I think we made the right call. Another remnant of the pop EDM that flooded the industry ~2010; definitely dropped this a few times at my final college bar residency. Easy listening that the people can dance to - worth a spot in the rotation for special occasions. Gangnam Style - PSY

tempo: 132 bpm bpm range:   130  to  135 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #6 in Episode 40 (7:56): Had to slow this down a few bpm's, but still sounds ok. Another one of those one-hit wonders that straddles the line between hot and humorous; probably closer to the latter. But people should still recognize it, and if they're feeling loose, this should get them going - even if no one understands a single word PSY is saying. Try mixing / mashing up with: Without You - Avicii ft. Sandro Cavazza Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas Down - Jay Sean Sexy Bitch - Akon Yeah 3X - Chris Brown Sun Is Shining - Axwell ^ Ingrosso download or stream Gangnam Style: amazon spotify playlist

Sexy Bitch - David Guetta ft. Akon

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm the DJ’s take: Track #3 in Episode 40 (3:07): There's often a thin line between a hit and a joke - this one could go either way. A legitimate thumper when it came out, and maybe it'll be cool again when pop turns the clock back to 2010. Worth a spin for a crowd ready to get loose at a pool party. Where Are Ü Now - Skrillex & Diplo ft. Justin Bieber

tempo: 70 bpm, 140 bpm bpm range: 65 bpm  to  70 bpm ,  70 bpm  to  75 bpm , 135 to 140 bpm , 140  to  145 bpm The DJ's Take: One of the first singles that made people take Bieber a little more seriously. Apparently this was originally a 'piano ballad' (via wikipedia ): Good on Skrillex & Diplo for making it thump. Should still get a crowd going, especially in a bigger, louder venue. Try mixing with: From 65 to 69 bpm: Top Off - DJ Khaled, JAY Z, Future, Beyoncé Bartier Cardi - Cardi B ft. 21 Savage Modern Slavery - Huncho Jack, Travis Scott, Quavo Love Galore - SZA ft. On The Floor - Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm ,  130  to  135 bpm The DJ's Take:  J. Lo and Pitbull - a partnership that brought us one of the great in-concert images of the 2010s : Hey; he's only human. As for the track, a loud, thumping mega-hit when it came out. Still has value as a throwback on a dance-oriented, unpretentious Top 40 night. Timber - Pitbull ft. Ke$ha

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm The DJ's Take: If they ever make Coyote Ugly 2, I'm guessing this is going on the soundtrack. Anyway, you knew this song had reached a new level of cultural relevance when every other female was writing 'I'm yelling Tinder !' in their dating app profiles. That hook should have a longer shelf life than honey , and should get a good reaction in any festive setting. Something New - Axwell ^ Ingrosso

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm The DJ's Take: The buildup feels like an 80s motivational montage music, and the drop should be the theme for the next Ireland Board of Tourism promo video. Best employed during a festival or in an edm set at a big club. Try mixing with key-compatible tracks like: Super Bass - Nicki Minaj Do You Remember - Jay Sean Spotless - Martin Garrix, Jay Hardway Hold On & Believe - Martin Garrix Slave To The Rhythm - Michael Jackson Birthday - Katy Perry Timber - Pitbull Play Hard - David Guetta Sweet Nothing - Calvin Harris Paradise - Benny Benassi and Chris Brown Waiting - Oliver Heldens & Throttle More Than Ever - Breathe Carolina & Ryos download or stream Something New: amazon spotify playlist itunes

Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm The DJ's Take: A former #1 song in the country , and an all-purpose dance track that should work at a wedding, a pep rally, or in any high-energy setting. That especially includes flash mobs: If you're staying key-compatible, try mixing or mashing up with: Animals - Martin Garrix I Like It - Enrique Iglesias ft. Till The World Ends - Britney Spears

tempo: 132 bpm bpm range: 130 to 135 bpm the DJ's take: Remember those news stories about how South Korea blasted k-pop across the DMZ: I nominate this song as a foreign entry into the playlist. There's a certain electricity in the beat that transcends its general status as a pop edm relic. And would anyone be surprised if this still gets an occasional spin in a Vegas party bus / limo during a bachelorette party? Some key-compatible tracks in the 128-129 bpm range: Shots - LMFAO Blame - Calvin Harris ft. John Newman Thinking About You - Calvin Harris Va Va Voom - Nicki Minaj Turn Me On - David Guetta ft. U Can't Touch This - MC Hammer

tempo: 133 bpm bpm range: 130 to 135 bpm the DJ's take: Tough to overstate how big this song was in 1990. Won virtually every major award you can think of, was all over the radio and on MTV, and everyone wanted to dance like him. Easy to forget the guy even had his own Saturday morning cartoon . Fun song anyone can get down to in almost any setting. Especially this guy: The easy move is to mix / mash up with Super Freak - Rick James . And if you're willing to drop a bpm or two, here's a good list of key-compatible tracks: F*ck You - Ceelo Green Push It - Salt N Pepa Danza Kuduro - Don Omar Pursuit of Happiness (Extended Steve Aoki Remix) [feat. tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm the DJ’s take: If you can love anything half as much as the dj below loves this song, consider yourself fortunate: Worth a spin in a throwback dance or electronic set. Without You - Avicii ft. Sandro Cavazza

tempo: 134 bpm bpm range: 130 to 135 bpm the dj's take: With a vocalist named Sandro Cavazza, I expected the first-ever edm opera crossover. Quite a letdown. Sounds like a slightly sped-up version of David Guetta & Usher's Without You , which could make for an interesting mashup in an electronic set. Some other key-compatible tracks worth mixing with: Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas Down - Jay Sean Sexy Bitch - Akon Yeah 3X - Chris Brown Sun Is Shining - Axwell ^ Ingrosso Gangnam Style - PSY download or stream the song: amazon itunes

3 - Britney Spears

tempo: 135 bpm bpm range: 130 to 135 bpm , 135 to 140 bpm the DJ’s take: I used to play this a lot when it came out. Basically pop edm on speed, with a modern icon singing about something we've all thought about. A former #1 on the Billboard charts, and worth a spin as a throwback track. If you're in the 130 to 135 bpm range, try mixing with: Wildest Dreams (R3hab Remix) - Taylor Swift This Is What It Feels Like - Armin Van Buuren Turn Up The Music - Chris Brown Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO And from 135 to 140 bpm: Malibu - Miley Cyrus Or you can double-time over: Drunk In Love - Beyoncé Confessions Part II - Usher Ignition (Remix) - R. Take Over Control - Afrojack ft. Eva Simons

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm ,  130  to  135 bpm The DJ's Take:  This would've made a good theme song for a video game console commercial. Big room edm has its time and place, and this is still worth spinning as a throwback in a big club setting. Beat It - Michael Jackson

tempo: 138 bpm bpm range:   135  to  140 bpm ,  65 bpm  to  70 bpm the DJ’s take: As a 4 year old rocking Osh Kosh BGosh overalls and a bowl cut , this was the most-played song off my Thriller tape cassette. Add in the Eddie Van Halen guitar solo, and you have one of the sweetest pop-rock collabos ever. Most importantly: the video teaches the youth that when you have a beef with someone, it can be resolved through interpretive dance. tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm the DJ’s take:  Former #1 song in the country, and has a thump that still resonates. I used to spin this a lot, and it always got a solid reception. A worthy and recognizable throwback for a pop night.
