App Reviews: Algoriddim Djay (for iPad)

You know the drill by now - dj app tries to replicate a realistic dj experience, and the experts try to pick it apart. So does the Algoriddim Djay app for iPad get the job done? A couple of in-depth web reviews give us some insight.

'Our resident professional dj was pleased rather than blown away by Djay, initially calling it a nice toy, but later describing it as a very convenient way to practice a set on a bus or train before coming back to 'real' dj gear at home or a club.' - iLounge

'Djay for iPad won't cut it for the advanced dj, but it's a fun tool that works well and takes advantage of all the iPad's usefulness.' - PCMag.com

Couple of things stand out to me. First off, the reviews note that you tend to get low memory warnings on a semi-regular basis, so look out for that. But for a beginner who wants to play around before upgrading to something bigger & better (or someone who just wants an easy way to keep the party going), Djay does a solid job of re-creating the experience - or simply beatmatching the tracks for you. Try it for yourself and let us know what you think by leaving a comment.

tempo: 92 bpm, switches to 123 bpm halfway through bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm , 120 to 125 bpm the DJ’s take:  A unique track that changes tempo halfway through - saves a dj the effort of having to come up with an energy-accelerating transition (similar deal with Just Can't Get Enough ). Decent throwback that should work during one of your quieter Top 40 nights. tempo: 130 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm ,  130  to  135 bpm The DJ's Take:  J. Lo and Pitbull - a partnership that brought us one of the great in-concert images of the 2010s : Hey; he's only human. As for the track, a loud, thumping mega-hit when it came out. Still has value as a throwback on a dance-oriented, unpretentious Top 40 night. tempo: 70 bpm bpm range:   65 bpm  to  70 bpm ,  70 bpm  to  75 bpm the dj's take: Perfect song for an adDJ - ~100 seconds that will boom through the speakers and rile up the crowd before you move on to the next banger. If you spin hiphop, this one needs to be in the rotation for the foreseeable future. Keep in mind this morphs into a second song at around 1:50 with a bpm of 65 bpm. And in case you were wondering why actor Don Cheadle is in the video: Interesting tracks to mix with at 65 to 70 bpm (scroll down in the box below): goosebumps - Travis Scott Make Love - Gucci Mane ft.
