Throwback Thursday: Scenario - A Tribe Called Quest

Speed: 102 bpm

Recommended bpm range: 100 to 105 bpm

The DJ's Take: One of the great party tracks of the 90s and 00s. I don't know if its ability to rock a room has dissipated over the years, but if you're spinning this weekend, at least pay a little tribute to the dude with the leadoff verse. RIP Phife Dawg.

If we're going key-compatible with the faint organ / keyboard, try mixing with tracks like:

Middle - DJ Snake
Picture Me Rollin' - Chris Brown
Alive - Sia
Ghost - Ella Henderson
2 On - Tinashe
Talk Dirty - Jason Derulo
Do What U Want - Lady Gaga
Hold On, We're Going Home - Drake
What's My Name - Rihanna
You - Lost Kings ft. Katelyn Tarver

dj mix/mashup: do you think of me [mariah carey] x always forever [bryson tiller]

Links: Made with Logic Pro at 72 bpm Fun little instrumental blend of Bryson Tiller's Always Forever , which we used in mix 66 , and Mariah Carey's Do You Think of Me , which ended up on the cutting room floor. As you can see up top, I broke out the scalpel and did some slicing to make the beats match up better. Final verdict: Worth it. Follow the playlist on djcheatsheet.com

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .
