Waves - Kanye West

Speed: 48 bpm

Recommended bpm range: 45 bpm to 50 bpm

The DJ's Take: Has an ethereal, majestic quality to it, especially with the Chris Brown chorus. Not exactly a dance floor banger, but certainly worth a spot in a recorded mix or as an end-of-the-night closer.

If you're around 95 to 100 bpm, try mixing with tracks like:

Running Out - Matoma
Boom - Major Lazer
Lean On - Major Lazer and DJ Snake
Lush Life - Zara Larsson
Dance Like We're Making Love - Ciara
Left, Right - YG, My House - Flo Rida
Classic Man - Jidenna
Let Me Love You - Mario
Girls Around The World - Lloyd ft. Lil Wayne

If you're around 102-103 bpm, try mixing with tracks like:

I Took A Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix) - Mike Posner
Right Hand - Drake
Truffle Butter - Nicki Minaj
Yeah - Usher
La Nueva y La Ex - Daddy Yankee
Fancy (Yellow Claw Remix)

dj mix/mashup: do you think of me [mariah carey] x always forever [bryson tiller]

Links: Made with Logic Pro at 72 bpm Fun little instrumental blend of Bryson Tiller's Always Forever , which we used in mix 66 , and Mariah Carey's Do You Think of Me , which ended up on the cutting room floor. As you can see up top, I broke out the scalpel and did some slicing to make the beats match up better. Final verdict: Worth it. Follow the playlist on

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .
