Hot in Herre - Nelly

Speed: 107 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #8 in our edition 57 mix (22:28): You know, I wanted to follow this up with House of Pain's Jump Around , but the drums just didn't match up in Logic Pro X , so we went with Intergalactic instead. Definitely worked for me during gigs on vinyl and cd players in the mid 2000s, so if you're using a traditional dj setup, try it out. Batter Up - Nelly ft. Murphy Lee & Ali

tempo: 80 bpm the dj's take: Song #9 in session 47  (20:31): Another strong candidate for my walk-up music if I ever join an adult softball league. Kind of a forgotten track from the 00s, but everyone knows The Jeffersons theme song, and this puts a nice spin on it. Should work just fine in a hiphop mix. tempo: 95.5 bpm bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm , 95 to 100 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #7 in our Pop Sampler mix (9:30): Obviously influenced by Sexual Healing, but don't worry - they cleared it (via wikipedia ): Worth a spin in the earlier part of a pop night. Die a Happy Man - Nelly

Speed: 88 bpm Recommended bpm range: 85 bpm to 90 bpm The DJ's Take: Who knew a rapper could sing a cover of a country song, let alone have it turn into a hit? I feel like this would play a little better below the Mason-Dixon line, but there's enough hiphop flavor for a traditional pop night. Try mixing or mashing up with tracks like Real Friends - Kanye West , Down and Out - Cam'ron , and We Go Down - Krewella . Download the song: iTunes Amazon

Music Review: Just A Dream - Nelly

Speed: 90 bpm Recommended bpm range: 85 bpm to 90 bpm , 90 to 95 bpm The DJ’s Take: So I’m checking the Billboard Hot 100, and I see this single debuting at #12, and I’m thinking two things. First thought: Holy crap - Nelly’s still alive? Second thought: Interesting case of the country crossover. And by that, I mean that when I’m checking the charts, I see these random pop country tracks from groups like Lady Antebellum , and it reminds me that there are areas in the U.S. below the Mason-Dixon line and out west where people actually like the kind of music that features warm acoustic guitars. In other words, Just A Dream’s initial popularity makes more sense after you’ve thought about it a little bit. Personally, I see this as more of a song you listen to in the car with the windows down, versus something you dance to in a bar or club. But if you’re a dj, and you feel ...
