Live While We're Young - One Direction

Speed: 126 bpm The DJ's Take: As a 30+ year old male, I possess a general immunity to One Direction. That said, this is another slickly produced single that younger females will love. Sounds a lot like that Starships track though, doesn't it? Anyway, try turning on key adjust and mixing with the following: Gangnam Style - PSY , Starships - Nicki Minaj , Without You - David Guetta ft. Usher , Mr. Saxobeat - Alexandra Stan , Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 , Who's That Chick - David Guetta ft. Rihanna , Yeah 3X - Chris Brown , Only Girl in the World - Rihanna , Sexy Bitch - Akon , One More Time - Daft Punk , Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas , Down - Jay Sean , Disturbia , Hotel Room Service - Pitbull , Day N Nite - Kid Cudi (Crookers Remix) Download the song:

DJ Equipment Reviews: Numark DJ2Go

When I was a dj, portability was one of my biggest considerations in buying equipment. That's why the Numark DJ2Go would be something I'd consider buying. Fits in a backpack, and seems to have all the basics you need to play a party or a weekly bar gig. Here are some excerpts from a couple online reviews (click the link to read the whole thing): 'If you're a wannabe DJ who wants the cheapest, most portable, simplest DJ controller set-up on the market, then get this and a splitter cable and prepare to have a lot of fun.' - digital dj tips 'If you are new to DJing we recommend picking one up, it won't break the bank, will stand up to a bit of punishment and offers all the basics you'll need to get going.' - HotDJGear.com On a side note, just because a review says it's good for beginners doesn't mean experienced dj's can't use it either. Once I moved away from vinyl, I always went for the simplest, smallest equipment I could ...

I Cry - Flo Rida

Speed: 126 bpm The DJ's Take: Kind of strange not to see Flo Rida doing a party video. I feel like if he's trying to do something inspirational, maybe slow it down and go with something a little heavier. Not a bad track, but everything feels a bit rushed here, including the sample. Worth a spin at least to see how your crowd reacts.  Try turning on key adjust and mixing with Call Me Maybe . You can also speed up a little and mix with Feel This Moment , Scream & Shout , and maybe even the Day 'N' Nite dance remix . Download the song: Amazon:

Numb - Usher

Speed: 125 bpm The DJ's Take: Heard this on the radio the other day, and I'd be surprised if it doesn't catch fire. Clean, danceable, and even inspirational - expect this to play in the ending credits of some sports movie or in an Olympics montage someday. Even if it doesn't bust up the charts, Numb will probably be a mainstay in a lot of people's workout mixes. Plus, it's Usher - a talented guy who consistently puts out quality music. Definitely worth a download. Turn on key adjust and mix with: Turn Up The Music - Chris Brown , Wild Ones - Flo Rida ft. Sia , Beautiful People - Chris Brown , Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO , Firework - Katy Perry , I Like It - Enrique Iglesias Download the song: Amazon:

The BMC Top 5 for September 2012

Same #1 from last month, but a bit of movement for #2 to 5: BMC Top 5 Singles for September 2012: 1. Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen 2. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO 3. Where Have You Been - Rihanna 4. Wide Awake - Katy Perry 5. Starships - Nicki Minaj Top 5 BPMs for September 2012: 1. 130 bpm 2. 125 bpm 3. 100 bpm 4. 120 bpm 5. 85 bpm One thing I learned this past weekend - you can get 130 bpm remixes of pretty much anything these days. But isn't there a certain appeal to playing the original track, especially because that's what made it popular in the first place? That's how I feel at least, although all the 20-somethings dancing around in Top 40 bars may beg to differ. Got your own ideas about what should be in the Top 5? Leave a comment. Die Young - Ke$ha

Speed: 128 bpm The DJ's Take: Heard this for the first time driving home from work yesterday, and it's basically Good Feeling Part II. I'll be pretty surprised if it isn't a hit among young females sooner or later. Along with the aforementioned track, throw in Levels with key adjust on, and you should be in good shape for 8-10 minutes. Download the song:

Finally Found You - Enrique Iglesias ft. Sammy Adams

Speed: 128 bpm The DJ's Take: Here's an idea for a prank - let's say you're hanging out with a guy friend. You're both on your laptops, checking out Facebook, and he steps out of the room. Quickly jump over to his computer, find a glamour shot of Enrique Iglesias on Google, and upload it as his profile pic before he comes back. Lot of variables involved of course, but speaking from experience, hilarity will definitely ensue once the comments start pouring in. On a side note, I know I'm getting old when I remember Enrique's dad Julio doing a duet with Willie Nelson back in the mid 80s . Yikes. Turn on key adjust and mix with Pound the Alarm - Nicki Minaj and I Can Only Imagine - David Guetta and Chris Brown . Download the song: Amazon:
