The BMC Top 5 for September 2012

Same #1 from last month, but a bit of movement for #2 to 5:

BMC Top 5 Singles for September 2012:

1. Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen

2. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO

3. Where Have You Been - Rihanna

4. Wide Awake - Katy Perry

5. Starships - Nicki Minaj

Top 5 BPMs for September 2012:

1. 130 bpm

2. 125 bpm

3. 100 bpm

4. 120 bpm

5. 85 bpm

One thing I learned this past weekend - you can get 130 bpm remixes of pretty much anything these days. But isn't there a certain appeal to playing the original track, especially because that's what made it popular in the first place? That's how I feel at least, although all the 20-somethings dancing around in Top 40 bars may beg to differ.

Time to Pretend - MGMT

tempo: 101 bpm The DJ's Take: Track #5 in mix #62 (8:05): I wanted to go a little off-beat in this mix, step outside traditional pop and hiphop, and this one fit the bill. A little on the louder side, and I didn't want to drown out the previous song with the screeching riff at the beginning, so we brought the volume down a little: Bound to bring out the inner-hippie in a crowd; worth a spin for a change of pace.
