dj mix/mashup: Can't Get Enough Money Trees (ft. J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Jack Harlow)

Made with Logic Pro at 68 bpm What started as a transition between songs in mix #55 of the sterling mercury show in September 2020 has finally evolved into something closer to fully-fledged. Always liked how these two sounded together, and finally figured out that Can't Get Enough was the perfect third wheel for what I was trying to build. Maybe one day we'll add even more, but this is about as good as I can do for now. Songs taken from this dj cheat sheet playlist - in case you feel like making your own mix.

dj mix/mashup: me & u, liberian girl (Cassie, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner)

Made with Logic Pro at 102 bpm If my lazier side had its way, I would've just used the first loop (Me & U instrumental + Liberian Girl instrumental) and the last one (Liberian Girl + What's Love Got To Do With It), copy-pasted over and over, and called it a day. Because those beats go together really well. But that would've been boring after about 45 seconds. So we fleshed it out, and added the vocals plus the hook from Me & U for a little variation and buildup. No question the vocals/hook combo from Liberian Girl or What's Love Got To Do... would've hit harder. But the chords/tone from either one never quite fit with the other instrumentals, so I went a little more conservative. Still turned out ok. Here's the playlist we used , in case you need some inspiration for your own project.

dj mix/mashup: Sweet Dreams, Middle Child (ft. J. Cole, Christopher Cross, The O'Jays, Eurythmics, and Giorgio Moroder)

Made with Logic Pro at 125 bpm Simple recipe for this one - take loops from the songs in chase and backstab like the wind and mix them over J. Cole's Middle Child. Just between you and me, I think I might like this one a little better. More of a contemporary feel. Try messing playing around with the Dj Cheat Sheet playlist I used and see what you can come up with.

dj mix/mashup: chase and backstab like the wind (ft. Christopher Cross, The O'Jays, Eurythmics, and Giorgio Moroder)

Made with Logic Pro at 125 bpm I think Logic Pro is slowly getting better - tried mixing Ride Like The Wind and Backstabbers weeks ago, and the beats just weren't locking in place like I wanted (which is something you can run into with 70s/80s songs). Tried again last week, didn't do anything different, and the result finally matched the vision. Moral of the story: if it doesn't work at first, give the developers some time and try again. Logic Pro Tuturial: Going back in the time (the Revert Function)

In a perfect world, you throw in track after track in a mashup or mix, it all sounds good, and you're done. But in reality, you often go in one direction, and change a course a couple times. The Revert function takes you back in time to an earlier saved version, so you can try going in a new direction without starting at square one. Watch the video for an example.
