dj mix/mashup: Levels N 2 Deep (Avicii, Drake, SZA, Shawn Mendes)

Made with Logic Pro at 125 bpm Another project with origins in an old mix . We added in a couple extra songs from the original loop, and to make the transitions a little less abrupt, I put in some sound effects ("Boomerang Downer" and "Airfield" as software instruments in Logic Pro, in case you were wondering). Individual software instruments can get drowned out by finished audio tracks side-by-side, but things worked out in this one.

dj mix/mashup: Sweet Dreams, Middle Child (ft. J. Cole, Christopher Cross, The O'Jays, Eurythmics, and Giorgio Moroder)

Made with Logic Pro at 125 bpm Simple recipe for this one - take loops from the songs in chase and backstab like the wind and mix them over J. Cole's Middle Child. Just between you and me, I think I might like this one a little better. More of a contemporary feel. Try messing playing around with the Dj Cheat Sheet playlist I used and see what you can come up with.

dj mix/mashup: chase and backstab like the wind (ft. Christopher Cross, The O'Jays, Eurythmics, and Giorgio Moroder)

Made with Logic Pro at 125 bpm I think Logic Pro is slowly getting better - tried mixing Ride Like The Wind and Backstabbers weeks ago, and the beats just weren't locking in place like I wanted (which is something you can run into with 70s/80s songs). Tried again last week, didn't do anything different, and the result finally matched the vision. Moral of the story: if it doesn't work at first, give the developers some time and try again. Here's the Dj Cheat Sheet playlist I used

Boy's a liar Pt. 2 - PinkPantheress, Ice Spice

tempo: 133 bpm the DJ's take: I think this youtube comment summarizes the vibe (and demographic) pretty nicely: If you're staying key-compatible, maybe double-time over songs in this playlist , or find some music in this playlist that's in the 127-130 bpm range. Probably best dropped at a middle or high school dance. download or stream Boy's a liar Pt. 2: amazon

dj mix/mashup: what is love x i'm good (david guetta, bebe rexha, haddaway)

Made with Logic Pro at 126 bpm Songs used: I'm Good - David Guetta, Bebe Rexha What Is Love - Haddaway I guess this is the month of I'm Good on this site? Yeah; my goal is to stretch out that $1.29 on iTunes as far as possible 🙂. Probably the closest thing to a mashup I've done so far with this track - tried to take different sections from both songs, and re-arrange them to make something different. 20 year old me would've loved that combined drop that starts halfway through; feel like it toes the line between over-the-top and club banger. I think there's more in there; maybe we'll add to this in the future. Or you can try on your own, using these two songs or other ones from our list of key and bpm-compatible dance tracks .

dj mix/mashup: hey brother; i'm good (david guetta, bebe rexha, avicii)

Made with Logic Pro at 127 bpm We made good use of that opening piano riff in I'm Good - looped it six times over that section in Hey Brother with the buildup that starts around 1:31 in and through the drop. I actually like this one a bit better than Five More Minutes and I'm Good ; nice harmonic blend with the piano and synthetic horns. Either way, we may have the beginnings of the next mix here. If it feels right, this is the list of key and bpm-compatible dance tracks we'll be filling it out with. Stay tuned.

dj mix/mashup: Five More Hours and I'm Good (ft. David Guetta, Bebe Rexha, Deorro and Chris Brown)

Made with Logic Pro at 127 bpm A little strange to see I'm Good get popular - the original Eiffel 65 song came out when I was in college, and it was something you threw into the Winamp playlist and blasted at a dorm room party on a Thursday night as you did a silly dance after your sixth whiskey sour. The nice thing is you can drop that unmistakable riff over a good selection of key and bpm-compatible dance tracks . As you can see, there's a good sliver starting around 0:43-44 seconds in; it's the vocal-free riff plus full-on percussion. That'll give you a solid ~15 seconds to play with or loop a few times, like I did. If you just want the piano without the percussion, isolate the section at the very beginning.

Levels - Avicii

tempo: 126 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm the DJ's take:  Song #6 in episode 71 (13:14): Could this song be part of the longest transition/beatmatch in the history of the sterling mercury show ? I'm clocking the overlap with Tame Impala's Let It Happen at around 1:20: Definitely lengthy, but that's almost like its own mini-mashup/remix. Those two sections fit pretty nicely over each other. That's the benefit of digging in the crates and trying different combos - sometimes you hit the jackpot. download or stream Levels: amazon dj cheat sheet playlist

Where Have You Been - Rihanna

tempo: 128 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #7 in mix 50 (10:35): So apparently Guinness tracks the world record for highest score on this song in the Just Dance video game . Probably looked something like this: Would you watch? Maybe. Anyway, the aforementioned record was set in 2015, which means it's time for this guy to mount a challenge: Anyway, going back to mix 50, that transition into the Black Eyed Peas Don't Stop The Party is butter. Club-level beat matching there, and strong mashup potential if you have some time to spare. Quick note: I found it was a little softer volume-wise than the other dance music in the track list, so keep that in mind. Some other key-compatible tracks: Titanium - David Guetta ft. Sia Va Va Voom - Nicki Minaj THE SCOTTS - THE SCOTTS, Travis Scott & Kid Cudi Like I Do - David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Brooks I Need Your Love - Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding Where Have You Been - Rih

Titanium - David Guetta ft. Sia

tempo: 126 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #3 in mix 50 (3:39): Pretty epic drop; a lot of those pop edm tracks from ~2010-2012 sound similar, so it makes sense to string them together. Akon's Beautiful was a nice follow-up here - kinda like going 88 mph on the highway, then braking down to 75. Some other key-compatible music: Va Va Voom - Nicki Minaj THE SCOTTS - THE SCOTTS, Travis Scott & Kid Cudi Like I Do - David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Brooks I Need Your Love - Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding Where Have You Been - Rihanna Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People In The Dark - DEV Pump Up The Jam - Technotronic Shots - LMFAO The Way You Move - Outkast Blame - Calvin Harris ft. Va Va Voom - Nicki Minaj

tempo: 127 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #2 in mix 50 (2:00): Even among all the dance songs in this mix, this one is especially heavy, so we brought the volume down a little. Blends smoothly into David Guetta & Sia's Titanium , in case you're throwing an early 2010s electro-pop party. Some other key-compatible music: THE SCOTTS - THE SCOTTS, Travis Scott & Kid Cudi Like I Do - David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Brooks I Need Your Love - Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding Where Have You Been - Rihanna Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People In The Dark - DEV Pump Up The Jam - Technotronic Shots - LMFAO The Way You Move - Outkast Blame - Calvin Harris ft. Ghosts N Stuff - deadmau5

tempo: 128 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #3 in 7squared (4:18): I like the transition into Imagine Dragons' Believer . The key is finding a percussion-less section in Ghosts N Stuff, and then putting the opening drums of Believer over it. Like a mini-mashup that gets the listener ready for what's to come. Try mixing with key-compatible tracks like: The Box - Roddy Ricch Dark Horse - Katy Perry ft. Juicy J Bad and Boujee - Migos ft. Lil Uzi Vert My Way - Fetty Wap ft. Kanye - The Chainsmokers ft. SirenXX

tempo: 64 bpm, 128 bpm The DJ's Take: The final song in episode  #37  (13:48): For some reason the opening piano notes remind me of the beginning of Bob Seger's We've Got Tonight: Kind of feels like Bohemian Rhapsody; quiet interludes build up into a heavy drop. If you're spinning a set, you may want to isolate the loud parts, get in and out quickly. Or lay a looped instrumental from another song over the softer parts, like we did with Steve Aoki & will.i.am's Born To Get Wild . Some other key-compatible tracks: Break Free - Ariana Grande ft. Zedd Red Lights - Tïesto Five More Hours - Deorro x Chris Brown Lalala - Y2K, bbno$ What Is Love - Haddaway Hey Brother - Avicii Dreamer - Axwell /\ Ingrosso Somebody To Love (Remix) - Justin Bieber ft. Without You - David Guetta ft. Usher

tempo: 128 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm The DJ's Take:  The final song in Episode 40 (19:39): Good way to wind down a pop edm set - energetic drops and quiet interludes. The pulsing synth without the vocals is pretty mix-friendly; plenty of places to drop this in without clashing with the previous song. Break Free - Ariana Grande ft. Zedd

tempo: 130 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm , 130 to 135 bpm The DJ's Take:  Song #5 in episode  #37  (7:11): Explosive. It's like Zedd channeled Eric Prydz and turned the volume up to 11: Good choice for an event in a big venue. Or a party for a friend who just got out of a bad relationship. Children - Justin Bieber

tempo: 127 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm The DJ's Take:  Song #12 in Episode 40 (18:54): A little tricky to beat match perfectly in  Logic Pro X , at least for me - I had to slide it around a couple times and trust my ears. Good enough. Left out the percussion-less sections; you should probably do the same to maintain the energy on a dance floor. Try mixing with: Only Girl In The World - Rihanna Yeah 3X - Chris Brown Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas Disturbia - Rihanna Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 Who's That Chick - David Guetta, Rihanna Wake Me Up - Avicii Don't Start Now - Dua Lipa Breathe - Jax Jones ft. Only Girl in the World - Rihanna

tempo: 126 bpm bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm The DJ’s Take:  Song #11 in Episode 40 (16:24): So my goal was to make this mix as melodic as possible. Good placement here - clashed a little when I brought this in full volume over  Don't You Worry Child ; a gradual increase made it sound like it was emerging as the other song faded out. A solid choice for a pop dance set. Some other key-compatible music: Yeah 3X - Chris Brown Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas Disturbia - Rihanna Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 Who's That Chick - David Guetta, Rihanna Wake Me Up - Avicii Don't Start Now - Dua Lipa Breathe - Jax Jones ft. Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia ft. John Martin

tempo: 129 bpm bpm range:   125  to  130 bpm The DJ's Take:  Song #10 in  Episode 40  (14:19): This is a loud one. I turned down the volume so it wouldn't overpower the other tracks. Makes sense to bring it in gradually, which should give the listener a little more time to adjust. Unless you're blending with other big room edm on a sturdy sound system; then feel free to blast away. Some other key-compatible music: Yeah 3X - Chris Brown Meet Me Halfway - Black Eyed Peas Disturbia - Rihanna Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 Who's That Chick - David Guetta, Rihanna Wake Me Up - Avicii Don't Start Now - Dua Lipa Breathe - Jax Jones ft.
