Throwback Thursday: Hip Hop Hooray - Naughty By Nature

Speed: 100 bpm

Recommended bpm range: 95 to 100 bpm, 100 to 105 bpm

The DJ’s Take: Heeyyyyyy, hooooo, heeyyyyy, hooooo...

Even if you don’t like hiphop, I know you know this one. Hip Hop Hooray is like a lifeline in the 95-100 and 100-105 bpm range. Just slip it on, watch the crowd sing along, take a quick swig of your adult beverage, and regroup for the next selection. No guarantees, but I can tell you that 60% of the time, it works every time. If you're in the 95 to 100 bpm range, try mixing with:

DJ mix: session 76 ft. Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .

dj mix/mashup: 6 man [drake] x devil in a new dress [kanye west, rick ross]

Made with Logic Pro at 82 bpm Clip from mix #69 - two big beats on top of each other, which I could've done a better job adjusting for a cleaner sound. But if you listen to the actual mix, the transition sounds smooth; my goal for this video was to create a loop that feels like the first draft of a mashup/remix. Worth building on for a future project. Key- and bpm-compatible playlist
