Music Review: Your Love - Nicki Minaj

Speed: 95 bpm

The DJ’s Take: Nicki Minaj resembles a black Snooki, only a little better looking and more talented. Honestly, when I heard the first few bars of this song, I could’ve sworn it was Justin Bieber singing. Definitely a chick song, and already in the Billboard Top 30, with strong potential to go up based on the saccharine factor. Interesting note you won’t care about - the beat samples Annie Lennox’ (of Eurythmics) No More I Love Yous. And yes, the fact I could figure that out within 15 seconds means I’ve listened to too much soft rock radio in my day.

More relevantly, I thought of 5 different popular tracks you can mix with this song if you turn on the key adjust. Pretty sure that’s a new record for this blog. Haven’t actually tried this out yet, but my ear tells me it should work. So if you don’t feel like using your brain during a set, that’s about 20-23 minutes on cruise control before you have to start thinking again.

dj mix/mashup: do you think of me [mariah carey] x always forever [bryson tiller]

Links: Made with Logic Pro at 72 bpm Fun little instrumental blend of Bryson Tiller's Always Forever , which we used in mix 66 , and Mariah Carey's Do You Think of Me , which ended up on the cutting room floor. As you can see up top, I broke out the scalpel and did some slicing to make the beats match up better. Final verdict: Worth it. Follow the playlist on djcheatsheet.com

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .
