Rock the Boat - Aaliyah

Speed: 93 bpm

The DJ's Take: Strange to think today is the 10th anniversary of Aaliyah's tragic death in a plane crash after filming this video. I remember it was around then that I decided to be a dj, having lived in NYC that summer for a college internship, and hearing the news about her was shocking. She was one of my favorite artists.

Anyway, if you're doing an Aaliyah tribute at some point, remember you can mix this straight with Back and Forth; same BPM and same key. I actually did that on the last mixtape I made a few years ago, and it sounds really good.

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .

dj mix/mashup: 6 man [drake] x devil in a new dress [kanye west, rick ross]

Made with Logic Pro at 82 bpm Clip from mix #69 - two big beats on top of each other, which I could've done a better job adjusting for a cleaner sound. But if you listen to the actual mix, the transition sounds smooth; my goal for this video was to create a loop that feels like the first draft of a mashup/remix. Worth building on for a future project. Key- and bpm-compatible playlist
