Throwback Thursday: X Gon' Give it to Ya - DMX

Speed: 95 bpm

Recommended bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm

The DJ's Take: One cool thing about Deadpool coming out - now we can blow the dust off one of my least favorite tracks from the early 00s. Of course, it's also go-to background music for generic action movie trailers. Guaranteed to drive up the testosterone in the room by about 36.4%. Try mixing or mashing up with tracks like How Do U Want It - Tupac and Baby - Brandy.

As a bonus, Deadpool has also resurrected Salt N Pepa's Shoop, which we covered back in 2010. If the feeling's right, I'd try mixing that with tracks like Old Thing Back - Matoma and Back To Sleep - Chris Brown.

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .

dj mix/mashup: 6 man [drake] x devil in a new dress [kanye west, rick ross]

Made with Logic Pro at 82 bpm Clip from mix #69 - two big beats on top of each other, which I could've done a better job adjusting for a cleaner sound. But if you listen to the actual mix, the transition sounds smooth; my goal for this video was to create a loop that feels like the first draft of a mashup/remix. Worth building on for a future project. Key- and bpm-compatible playlist
