When Doves Cry - Prince

tempo: 126 bpm

bpm range: 125 to 130 bpm

the dj's take: If you spin 80s, there's no way you can leave this out of the rotation, right? An iconic song of the decade, and certainly worth breaking out from time to time in a pop or wedding set. And to think that it all revolves around a simple little 3 note keyboard / synth riff. Brings to mind a certain musical cat:

dj mix/mashup: do you think of me [mariah carey] x always forever [bryson tiller]

Links: Made with Logic Pro at 72 bpm Fun little instrumental blend of Bryson Tiller's Always Forever , which we used in mix 66 , and Mariah Carey's Do You Think of Me , which ended up on the cutting room floor. As you can see up top, I broke out the scalpel and did some slicing to make the beats match up better. Final verdict: Worth it. Follow the playlist on djcheatsheet.com

DJ mix/mashup: no can do because of you (ft. Hall & Oates and Ne-Yo)

Made with Logic Pro at 113 bpm A quick clip from the last mix , and one of my favorite transitions in it. Kind of alluring, mysterious; maybe we can make a more fully realized remix/mashup someday. If you're wondering what the image is in the background at the start of the video, those are quahogs and a channeled whelk I dug out of the sand in low tide on a recent beach trip. Pretty solid haul, and good eating for sure. Although I probably should've kept them separate - apparently whelks like to eat the clams .
