Rapper's Delight - The Sugarhill Gang

Speed: 110 bpm

The DJ's Take: Song #6 in our edition 57 mix (13:17):

If you need a breather during a set or a gig, this one needs to be in the rotation. A family-friendly classic that'll give you some extra minutes to figure out your next move. Also, healthy breaks at the beginning and end that give you plenty of runway for the transitions in and out. The drawback: if you're in the zone and let it run too long, you risk losing the momentum (and the crowd).

Within the mix, I like the placement between Blondie's Rapture and Kool & The Gang's Get Down On It - nice little late 70s / early 80s vibe that the older folk will appreciate.

Some other key- and bpm-compatible music:

Changes - 2Pac
Dákiti - Bad Bunny, Jhay Cortez
I'll Be Missing You - Puff Daddy, Faith Evans
Watch Me Do - Meghan Trainor
I Wish (My Taylor Swift) - The Knocks & Matthew Koma
Feel Right - Mark Ronson ft. Mystikal
Peaches N Cream - Snoop Dogg
Trouble - Iggy Azalea ft. Jennifer Hudson
Doing It - Charli XCX ft. Rita Ora
Jump Around - House of Pain
Let's Get Blown - Snoop Dogg ft. Pharrell

tempo: 93 bpm bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #6 in our chapter 53 mix (11:38): As we saw with the I Wonder lead-in, that percussion-only intro makes this easier to mix and to play around with. Also melts nicely into Nine Inch Nails' Closer . In fact, even though I know when the transition's coming, it still creeps up on me a bit. Still worth a spot in your prime-time pop rotation. tempo: 92 bpm, switches to 123 bpm halfway through bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm , 120 to 125 bpm the DJ’s take:  A unique track that changes tempo halfway through - saves a dj the effort of having to come up with an energy-accelerating transition (similar deal with Just Can't Get Enough ). Decent throwback that should work during one of your quieter Top 40 nights.
