Cake - Flo Rida & 99 Percent

tempo: 105 bpm

The DJ's Take: The leadoff song in 45 and Lex:

Surprising that this wasn't a bigger hit. Party vibe is undeniable; should play well for people of all ages. Flows nicely into Clean Bandit & Demi Lovato's Solo, and gets the mix off to a strong start.

On a side note, saw this t-shirt on amazon and had a flashback to high school [click the image for the product page]:

This is the album that features one of the great workout songs of all-time:

I remember being on the tennis team, riding shotgun to an away match, and the coach suddenly asked me to take over the steering wheel so he could eat a sandwich. This song was blasting on the stereo as we were going around 80 mph on the highway. Pretty exhilarating. Also a minor miracle that we didn't all die.

Anyway, back to the Flo Rida track - some key-compatible music between 100 and 105 bpm:

Something Just Like This - The Chainsmokers & Coldplay
Paris - The Chainsmokers
I'm In Control - AlunaGeorge
Perfect (Matoma Remix) - One Direction
Cheyenne - Jason Derulo
Classic - The Knocks
Alejandro - Lady Gaga

And from 105 to 110 bpm:

tempo: 93 bpm bpm range: 90 to 95 bpm The DJ's Take: Song #6 in our chapter 53 mix (11:38): As we saw with the I Wonder lead-in, that percussion-only intro makes this easier to mix and to play around with. Also melts nicely into Nine Inch Nails' Closer . In fact, even though I know when the transition's coming, it still creeps up on me a bit. Still worth a spot in your prime-time pop rotation. Some other key-compatible music: Old Thing Back - Matoma & Notorious BIG Back To Sleep - Chris Brown One More Chance (Remix) - Notorious BIG Shoop - Salt N Pepa Out of the Woods - Taylor Swift This Is How We Do - Katy Perry Na Na - Trey Songz Paranoid - Ty Dolla $ign No Games - Serani Download or stream Starboy: spotify playlist amazon

Famous - Kanye West

Speed: 87 bpm bpm range: 85 bpm to 90 bpm The DJ's Take: The leadoff song in our tenthirtynine mix: Good illustration of the saying 'less is more.' Simple, minimal beat with a heavier version of the drums from Good Morning and then a nice little breakdown into the Sister Nancy sample . A proper thump for almost any weekend gig.
